The Friday night was opened with a heartfelt speech by City Council Member Ben Kallos, a longtime supporter of the Bohemian Benevolent and Literary Association and the Vaclav Havel Library Foundation.
The Spring Weekend featured four staged readings from Czech, Hungarian, Slovak, and Polish playwrights, and one full Romanian production. In keeping with a festival established in honor of the great dissident playwright Vaclav Havel, each wonderfully unique performance encouraged the audience to examine their own beliefs and norms through the lens of art.
The program was supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
