The Relevance of President Vaclav Havel’s Legacy in Today’s World
Panel discussion to mark President Havel’s 80th birthday.
Havel’s colleagues will discuss current political themes he would have deemed relevant, such as the state of the European Union, the refugee crisis, the foreign policy of the United States, the rise of right-wing nationalism, the Trump phenomenon, the U.S. opening to Cuba and Iran et al. Panelists will include: Ivan Havel, Director, Center for Theoretical Study, Charles University in Prague; Michael Kocab, composer, singer and political activist; Martin Palous, Director, Vaclav Havel Initiative for Human Rights and Diplomacy at Florida International University; Jan Svejnar, James T. Shotwell Professor of Global Political Economy at Columbia University; and Michael Zantovsky, Director, Vaclav Havel Library. Stephen Grand, Executive Director of the Middle East Strategy Task Force, Atlantic Council, will moderate the discussion.
