“Art and Activism: Amnesty International USA Write for Rights.”

Write for Rights with Amnesty InternationalAmnesty International USA is joining forces with Eugene Lang College, The New School University, Theater Program for a free event “Art and Activism: Amnesty International USA Write for Rights.”
Tuesday, December 8, 2015 from 6pm-8pm at the Theresa Lang Center, 55W 13th Street

The event will consist of students from Prof. Zishan Ugurlu’s Creating Solo Performance: Dissident Artist class and visiting artists-activists. The students will be performing their own monologues influenced by the lives of individuals who have suffered from human rights violations. This class is supported by Civic Arts & Humanities and the Mellon Foundation. Additionally, The New School’s Amnesty International student organization will conduct a write-a-thon focused on the Write for Rights cases.

Write for Rights is one of Amnesty International’s largest global actions, and these letters change lives. Our Write for Rights campaign resulted in the freeing torture-survivor Moses Akatugba from death row in Nigeria; helped Chicago torture survivors pass a historic law ensuring justice; helped Prisoner of Conscience Liu Ping see her daughter again; helped free Prisoner of Conscience Murad Shtwei; and helped convince El Salvador to Pardon Carmen Guadalupe Vasquez Aldana 23 years before the end of her sentence under the country’s total ban on abortion.

Join us to write a letter, and to change a life. Join us for an evening of art and activism.

Come see local NYC artists and activists shine light on human rights issues all around the world through their powerful performances and by taking action on Amnesty International’s WRITE FOR RIGHTS Campaign
